Papertrey April Blog Hop Challenge

This month's inspiration photo is so technical it will be very interesting to see how each person interpreted what they saw. Hopefully, some of the fabulous DT members will find time to join in with their take on the challenge on Nichole's blog. Look at this beautiful design!

I will be really curious to see the amazing creations because even though several Forum posts indicated this was a rough one, I know they will rock it. My ink blending using the negatives of Large Circles Nestabilities was done on Vintage Cream card stock. Here's my take. 

The Vintage Cream layer is popped up using Foam Tape onto the Kraft card base. I almost left the "bulls-eye" plain but just had to dress it up a bit with that beautiful Vellum butterfly. To tie the sentiment together, I layered Pure Poppy under the Kraft "birthday" Swoosh die-cut. The red on Kraft "Happy" was traced with my Gelly Roll Glitter Pen, even though it's difficult to see here.

Actually, I salvaged my first attempt at ink blending multicolored circles, one color blended on top of the other. Hence, I decided to make a second card using my circle inlaid die after stacking three white layers beneath the colored. The top white layer popped up using SU Dimensionals was dry embossed using Linen/Canvas Impression Plate. With the sentiment stamped in Black, I had to add some paint splatters that Kay Miller does so well. The small, loopy pink flower die cut is one I got from Sandy when she did a Forum giveaway. Thanks, Sandy!

PTI MIM #246: Faux Brush Lettering

Another week, another Make It Monday challenge at Papertrey Ink. This time it's the very talented Amy Sheffer showing us in a video and on her blog exactly how it's done. She makes it look so easy and has done some very striking cards sharing her technique of Faux Brush Lettering. Just had to try this but think I'd have better control using my Zig's than ink pads, water and a paintbrush. I'll definitely try this again once I have some stamps to use other than Graceful Greetings. The font isn't as thick as some so a bit challenging to follow the lines. Anyway, my demand is exceeding my stash at the moment for Thinking of You and/or Get Well cards so I need to quit the yardwork and get creating. : )

Now I see I should have watercolored vertically for a more even flow of leaf colors. Will remember that next time. Sponged the edge using Autumn Rose ink to tie it in with the leaves, adhered to white card base and added the five sequins to finish it off. Will view and comment tonight on what others have created. PTI Create Along With Us: April 2016

This month's release at Papertrey Ink was fabulous and so we're all the projects done by the Design Team showcasing these goodies. Several of these beauties are shown on Nichole Heady's blog. Which one do I choose as my inspiration? This time I went with one of Kay's from her Release In Review post.Trust me when I say you can't replicate anything Kay does because she is one awesome crafty lady, but I gave it my best shot anyway. She used butterflies, and I used feathers with watercoloring, smooshing and splattering. Oops, forgot to add sequins! Will do next time. 😀

After stamping the largest feather using VersaFine Onyx ink, I heat embossed with clear powder. The smaller two feathers are stamped in Harvest Gold and Summer Sunrise with black Sharpie lines and Wink of Stella Shimmer. Since sympathy cards can be so challenging when needed, I like to have a few in my stash. This is one more at the ready.

PTI MIM #245: Color Isolation

The weeks sure go by quickly as it's time again for another Make It Monday Challenge with Papertrey Ink. Ashley shared with us ways to stamp a lighter background with color isolation to highlight an image. Wanting a change from butterflies and flowers, I went with a design that works for those more challenging masculine cards. Rather than use Kraft ink on Kraft cardstock, I should have opted for VersaMark ink to make my background even lighter. I'll save that thought for next time. Yard work is calling my name so this will be a quick post.

I repeatedly stamped the word "Celebrate" across my Kraft card base. Even though the dies don't match up perfectly with the stamped words, I decided to try this anyway. Two layers of Kraft beneath the white die-cut, I colored it using Bright Buttercup ink on my acrylic block with a paint brush and water. "It's Your Birthday" was stamped on Kraft with Dark Chocolate ink, snipped both ends and popped it up using SU Dimensionals. That's all folks!

PTI MIM #244: Score Lines

Laurie shared her favorite tips and tricks of adding score lines for additional detail and texture. Let me tell you, she has this technique mastered. Stop by Nichole's blog here to watch Laurie's helpful video and try the challenge yourself. She showed some other cards she made sharing a variety of ways to add score lines.

I'm sure there will be lots of great inspiration from the challenge entries so let's get on with my card.

The top white layer has been scored at a diagonal on the 1/2-inch marks in both directions with an oval die cut in the middle. This was adhered to the Bitty Dot paper with white foam so the flowers could be more free floating. I sponged Hibiscus Burst along the outer edges of the card base. Added my sentiment on a banner and finished the card using three sequins and glitter pen highlighting. Can't wait to check out what others have created tomorrow!
