PTI MIM #250: Masked Backgrounds

Laurie showed us in a video how to mask a background for this week's Make It Monday Challenge at Papertrey Ink. I've done this before but often forget about all the different techniques out there to incorporate in card making. These are always great reminders even if I don't learn something new. Although, usually I learn at least some tips to accomplish the task easier. Here's my creation.

It's pretty easy to see here that after masking my Stamper's Select White card stock I used Winter Wisteria and Royal Velvet for ink blending. Peaceful Garden was stamped twice in VersaFine Onyx Black ink and heat embossed using Clear Embossing Powder. Stamped my sentiment also in black and popped up the masked image using Foam Tape. Done.

I'm also entering this here for Simon Says Wednesday Challenge: Anything Goes.

Papertrey May Blog Hop Challenge

This month's blog hop challenge for Papertrey Ink is based off beautifully watercolored popsicles by Sarah Langtry from Just The Bee's Knees. What's your favorite flavor?

They look so tasty and very colorful. These got my creative juices flowing in a different way. I opted to stamp vs. watercolor for this birthday card of pastel balloons. (Not sure why the colors look so dark but maybe because it's overcast here.)

PTI MIM $249: Make It With Money

This week it was Lexi Daly's turn to host Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday challenge. She shared several ways to incorporate money gifts into the design of our handmade cards. Since I needed a high school graduation card for a nice young man, I decided to run with it using his school colors. Here's what I came up with so I hope he likes it. Of course, there will also be more money or a gift card to go with this. (We're not just giving him $1, but I like how it lined up the #1 front and center.)

If you look closely under the Congratulations from Swoosh, you can see the numbers 2016 ink blended in gray using the negative die cuts. Congratulations and the Scene It: Celebration consist of three layers for thickness. I popped up the graduation hat using SU Dimensionals and used a removable glue dot to attach the dollar-bill diploma. I'm sure that might just come in handy some day for this high school graduate. : )

PTI MIM #248: Ink Blending Through Die Cut Masks

Lizzie hosted this week's Make It Monday for Paperetrey Ink here. She shared tips on ink blending using our own die-cut masks. She used different size hearts for her beautiful card that you can see on Nichole's blog. I've been thinking all week about which dies to use when I could sneak off to my craft room. Since I need a birthday card for my sister-in-law next week, this was the perfect opportunity. Quick glance it appears several have entered the challenge already so I'll make this quick.

Using Clear Vellum to make my masks, I die cut two flower sizes using Beautiful Blooms II Dies #1. The larger flower was blended with Lovely Lady and the two smaller ones with Autumn Rose. The leaves were added using New Leaf ink with the Make It Market Mini Kit: Color Pop Florals stencil. My ink splatters were created using a black watercolor and paintbrush, and the black rhinestones added some extra bling. "Sending" from Wet Paint Cuts III was die cut in black and adhered directly to the white layer. "Birthday Wishes" from Painted Petals was stamped in black on white and popped up using SU Dimensionals. This was layered on True Black before adding to a white card base. That's it for me. I'll be out of town for the weekend so will comment after my return. Thanks for stopping by ~ appreciate your comments.

Hope all the women out there had a Happy Mother's Day! Thanks for any comments left on my blog. I apologize for not getting around to commenting on yours yet. My DH and I have been working on replacing steps to our deck, and yes, he's still recovering from his shoulder surgery just 10 weeks ago. Have a fabulous week!
