PTI Create Along With Us Challenge: May 2018

It was release week at Papertrey Ink so that means we create our own version of something that inspired us from the amazing DT. Because I was on vacation last week and then had company, I desperately needed to get back in my stamping room and create. Lexi definitely inspired me with her clean and simple designs so I made one similar to her rainbow hearts for graduation and a second one for a masculine birthday, as shown below.

PTI Create Along With Us Challenge: January 2018

Well, the Design Team at Papertrey Ink is off to a great start with its first 2018 Release and Create Along With Us Challenge. My guess is most of us make more birthday cards throughout the year than any other. Well, let me tell you, they came through with lots of birthday treats. My “I need” list is a really long one after seeing all their gorgeous and colorful creations. My milestone birthday card was inspired by a combination of Lizzie's and Michelle's. I’ll share images of theirs and then mine.

Since I don't have any of the newer Brushed Off dies, I created my mask using two sizes from MFT Rectangle Dies and altered it a bit because it was too long. My Happy Birthday sentiment repeated across the rectangle is stamped using Soft Stone ink. Because I got some excess ink on the lower portion of the card base, I decided to use the edger die to remove it and added my Floral Sketches gray/white strip to the inside of my card. Only probably is they don't stand up so it was even more difficult to get a decent photo.

PTI MIM #262: Pumpkin Stamps 3 Ways

Nichole's famous last words when it comes to PTI's challenges is to just have fun. This week's Make It Monday by Ashley encourages us to use a pumpkin stamp in three ways. Last Monday I realized I don't own a pumpkin stamp so figured I couldn't play along. Well, I had to get a bit creative so it limited me to only make one card tonight, but I see now I'm not the only one. Hopefully our entries qualify.

For my pumpkin, I traced a cookie cutter from watercolor paper, fussy cut and then ink blended in Orange Zest. Used an H2O brush to add texture to the pumpkin. The stem was traced, cut a second time and stamped in Kraft using the striped stamp from Grunge Me. I also used my H2O brush to blend those lines a bit. With Ripe Avocado ink I colored a piece of white crochet thread before tying a bow around the pumpkin stem.

Black card stock pieces were cut with Jolly Holiday Dies for starry eyes, Birthday Style Die garland piece for the mouth and a 1/4 inch punch for the circular nose.   The sentiment from Scene It: Celebration was stamped on a Kraft Bubble Talk die cut using VersaFine Onyx Black ink. The Rustic Cream card base was ink blended in Ripe Avocado over the leafy stencil from the Garden Gate Kit. My pumpkin and sentiment bubble were popped up to finish this Fall birthday card.

PTI Create Along With Us: September 2016

We just returned from a fun vacation in the great state of Tennessee so I am way behind in blogland. In fact, I hurriedly skimmed through the DT's posts to find a card that inspired me so I could participate in this week's Create Along With Us Challenge. Now the hardest part is selecting only one because I want to CASE them all...and when I have more time, I intend to do this. My favorite day of posting was the Christmas Faith post on September 12, even though I ended up making a birthday card. Not that I could ever come close to creating Melissa's style, but she inspired me with this card of hers.

Have you ever heard of Liquid Gold by Plaid? Well, now you have. I had to go to two different craft stores to find it in stock so I guess it's a pretty hot product right now. Of course, it is as Danielle Flanders is right on trend. Our third challenge for Papertrey Ink's 2016 Stamp-A-Faire encouraged us to use liquid gold leafing on a project. Warning: it has a strong smell and cannot be cleaned up with just water! Ask me how I know. : ) The results are just stunning though. Here's my card:

PTI Create Along With Us Challenge: July 2016

When PTI's release week coincides with Make It Monday, we get to choose a designer's project that inspires us. Details for the challenge can be found on Nichole's blog. There are always so many fabulous creations it's challenging to decide which one I want to recreate. This month my inspiration is this one by Betsy Veldman. Not only do I like the layout, but the bold colors speak to me.

Of course, Betsy used newly-released products, which I don't have, but I came up with dies and stamps that I thought would work improvising. Without further ado, here's my version. 

Ink blended a "happy" die-cut from Pretty Peonies using Summer Sunrise and Orange Zest inks on a piece of acetate, water and paintbrush. Definitely think reinkers would be the answer to get brighter colors. The bottom portion of my Mat Stack #3 die is Tropical Teal blended ink. The watercoloring behind the focal image is Tropical Teal, Enchanted Evening, Summer Sunrise and Orange Zest over white heat-embossed stars from Scene It: Celebration. Added Enchanted Evening sponged stars, white stars edged & colored with Gelly Roll Stardust Pen - all die-cut from Scene It: Celebration. The white crochet thread took the place of Betsy's Paper Clippings swirls. "Birthday!" from Stylish Sentiments: Birthday was stamped with Enchanted Evening. Some SU Dimensionals gave the added dimension necessary.

Papertrey May Blog Hop Challenge

This month's blog hop challenge for Papertrey Ink is based off beautifully watercolored popsicles by Sarah Langtry from Just The Bee's Knees. What's your favorite flavor?

They look so tasty and very colorful. These got my creative juices flowing in a different way. I opted to stamp vs. watercolor for this birthday card of pastel balloons. (Not sure why the colors look so dark but maybe because it's overcast here.)

PTI MIM #242: Sponged Stamping

So, here we are again with another Make It Monday challenge at Papertrey Ink. This week the bright and cheerful Dawn McVey showed us how to use sponges to create a gradient ink blending on stamped images. Her two Spring Woods cards are fabulous, and you can see both of them as well as the video here. Can you believe I don't have birds or feathers in my collection, which would no doubt be quite popular for this sponged stamping technique?

In need of a milestone birthday card for a dear friend, I had to put my thinking cap on for ideas of what to use. Scene It: Celebration and Modern Background Stencils were calling my name. Without further ado, here's my card.

In the image below, you can see a close-up (click to enlarge it) of my sponged stamping and bling!

My Modern Stencil background was ink blended using Winter Wisteria, lightening up the edges. Two layers of Scene It: Celebration dies were cut, one in Winter Wisteria and one in Stamper's Select White. Here's where the sponged stamping technique comes in using Berry Sorbet and Bright Buttercup inks. Then I staggered that layer over the Winter Wisteria for a little different twist. The popped up Happy Birthday banner stamped in Berry Sorbert was cut separately from Stamper's Select White and edged with Bright Buttercup. The "75" was die-cut from Modern Numbers, dots added using a Gelly Roll Glitter Pen and popped up for dimension. Five purple rhinestones added a little sparkle to finish the card.

PTI's 9th Anniversary Day 5: Sampler Square Challenge

WOW, this was the challenge of all challenges. In fact, several people posted on the PTI Forum for clarification of the rules. This is for Day 5, and here's Nichole's instructions: "…cut nine 1-1/2” squares from white cardstock, then alter all nine of the squares using a variety of techniques, colors, stamps, etc. Be sure to do something different to each square! "

The first challenge was to decide on a color palette, then which stamps would work well in a 1-1/2" square, and which nine techniques to use so each square would be different. My color palette besides Stamper's Select White is: Harvest Gold, Aqua Mist, Hawaiian Shores, Tropical Teal and Gray/Silver with bits of Black. Here's what my 5-1/2" card looks like:

PTI's 9th Anniversary Day 1: DT Favorites

The challenge for the first day of PTI's Anniverary celebration here was to choose one of the 13 Color Recipe Cards to create a new project. It took me a while to decide on a color combination because they are all gorgeous. PTI's Design Team is amazing! Here's the one I went with for a birthday card:

Even though there is no way I could do justice like Kay Miller did with this color palette, I wanted to use it anyway. Since we have lots of February and March birthdays, at least I'm building my stash.
