PTI MIM #331: Creating Mixed Background Texture

Here we are in August already and time for another Papertrey Ink Make It Monday. This week Stephanie shared how to mix textures using stamps and die cuts. Believe it or not, I still need more graduation cards (+ one more to make) and a wedding card so I created two using this technique. Thanks, Stephanie, as I'm happy with the results but definitely need more Cover Plates to mix things up a bit. Here are my two creations.

SAF 2017: 1st Anniversary Tradition: Paper by Laura Bassen

Our third event for Papertrey Ink's Stamp-A-Faire 2017 was lead by Laura Bassen using scraps of paper and vellum. Her videos are always so informative and entertaining, and her colorful and geometric creations are dynamite. Here's what she designed to inspire us. 

Since I don't own the Mighty Bloom Cover Plate, I used my Hexagon Cover Plate and a mix of colors. Wish I would have had time to try stitching on vellum like Laura did, but that will be for another time. Here's my colorful birthday card.

Sending Big Hugs

Altenew's Ultimate Challenge Blog Hop is such a fun hop. Now if I could only figure out how to chart all these challenges so when time permits, I could participate in several of them. I'm on a mission to figure out an easy system. In the mean time, I again pulled out my Altenew stamp set. 

Here's another card I made using Sketchy Cities America 2, the Seattle Cityscape. Kathy at The Daily Marker is one of the challenge participants. Her challenge is "The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge." Her beautiful colored images are definitely works of art. After stamping the Seattle Cityscape in VersaFine Onyx Black ink, I colored in some of the images with my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Pens. PTI's Wet Paint III sentiment was die cut from black card stock and inked in black on a white strip. A black strip of card stock was attached to the inside of the white card base. 

Create Along With Us: June 2016

While the fabulous DT for Papertrey Ink showcases this month's new products, we get to play along using their projects as inspiration with links here on Nichole's blog. They come up with so many awesome creations that it's challenging to narrow down which ones to use. This is a great opportunity to challenge myself outside of my comfort zone and attempt something different. I've created two cards (but only one entry) as I was on a roll yesterday and actually finished five cards. This first card is a bit of a mix from Lizzie's Woodblock Prints (3rd one) beautiful rainbow card on the left and a spin off of Kay's Woodblock Prints (1st one) on the rightwith the bolder colors and white, layered die-cuts.


                                          


Rarely do I take on the task of creating a background that needs to be more precise than random flowers and/or leaves, but this was a fun challenge for me. Thanks to my MISTI and Lovely Layers stamp set I was able to line it up pretty well. Even though I didn't use the exact same colors as Kay's lovely card above, I only substituted Royal Velvet for Simply Chartreuse as I thought it would be too much green for my design. If you look closely or enlarge this image, you can see I stamped "Big Hugs" in Royal Velvet beneath my three-layered, white "sending" die cut. Coordinating colored sequins finished it off after adhering it to a Summer Sunrise card base and rounding the two bottom corners.

Here's my inspiration from Danielle's blog (also her 3rd card):

Thought it would be fun to try stenciling using two different colors separating a design. Since my stencil supply is limited to Modern Backgrounds and Color Pops Florals, I decided to create an oval mask for the center. The inks I blended are Mint Julep and Ocean Tides. I really like the combination but when it came time to choose the mat color, the Mint Julep ink coordinated better with Simply Chartreuse card stock. It really was a long shot against the Mint Julep card stock, at least in my opinion. Here's my take:

PTI MIM #245: Color Isolation

The weeks sure go by quickly as it's time again for another Make It Monday Challenge with Papertrey Ink. Ashley shared with us ways to stamp a lighter background with color isolation to highlight an image. Wanting a change from butterflies and flowers, I went with a design that works for those more challenging masculine cards. Rather than use Kraft ink on Kraft cardstock, I should have opted for VersaMark ink to make my background even lighter. I'll save that thought for next time. Yard work is calling my name so this will be a quick post.

I repeatedly stamped the word "Celebrate" across my Kraft card base. Even though the dies don't match up perfectly with the stamped words, I decided to try this anyway. Two layers of Kraft beneath the white die-cut, I colored it using Bright Buttercup ink on my acrylic block with a paint brush and water. "It's Your Birthday" was stamped on Kraft with Dark Chocolate ink, snipped both ends and popped it up using SU Dimensionals. That's all folks!

PTI MIM #215: Bringing The Inside Out

You can see Danielle's fun challenge here showing how to bring the inside of the card to the outside for Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday. Because I waited until the last minute to attempt this one, I'm not sure I did it exactly right. It's been SO hot here I think my brain got fried. However, I plan to store this technique for future cards, but here's the one I just finished.

It's difficult to see in the photo, but I did add two score lines at the top and one at the bottom to give it a little added texture. Think the spritzing added a lot for something different.
