PTI MIM #323: Cascading Die Cuts

This week it was Stephanie's turn to inspire us for Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday. It's all about creating die cuts cascading down the front of your card. Well, I didn't follow instructions right to the tee because I desperately need graduation cards. These kids grow up so fast that I didn't realize I need three more cards than I had planned on making.

Please forgive me, Stephanie, as I did use the concept of how you added die cuts over colored paper. Mine just aren't cascading down the front but rather side to side. By The Numbers dies were just a bit too big.

Supplies: (all PTI unless noted):
Cardstock: Stamper's Select White, Bright Buttercup and Blue (stash)
Ink: VersaMark and SU Brilliant Blue Marker
Stamps: Penned Elegance
Dies: By The Numbers and For The Graduate
Other: SU Dimensionals, Scor Tape, CTMH Sparkles, Star Punch and Gelly Roll Glitter Pen

I tried this techique again on another graduation card and like this one better. Can you tell that I incorporated school colors for the grads? Love that added touch!

Thank you for stopping by, and I really do appreciate your comments!

Papertrey Ink 11th Anniversary - Day 7 (Use Only Dies - No Stamps)

We're already past Day 7 of Papertrey Ink's 11th Anniversary, but I'm just posting my card now. The challenge was to create a project using only dies - no stamps! I know I've done this before and not intentionally, but once I thought about it awhile I was grasping for ideas without using flowers. Some of those die-cuts don't look as good without stamping on them. Another milestone birthday card has been completed now using only dies and some bling.

Thank you for stopping by, and I really do appreciate your comments!

PTI 7th Anniversary ~ Day 1 (Color & Sketch Challenge)

This challenge was actually announced on the first day of Papertrey Ink's 7th Anniversary, but we have until 7 am EST on February 15 to post our creations. They've kept us so busy with each day's challenge I didn't get to try any of the recipes provided until now.  Our task was to select any one Color Recipe Card and one Sketch Recipe Card from the seven options shown for our project. There's no limit to how many combinations we use or cards we make. Since I have three cards to share and a long post, let's get started.

Pictured are the Color and Sketch Recipes I used for this fun birthday card.

My second card is a sympathy card, which I hope I don't have to use anytime soon but prefer having at least one ready and available when needed.

My third and final card for today is a special birthday card for my husband's aunt, when she turns 90 later this month. It's hard to see in the photo but the patterned paper has tiny, pink hearts so I felt the punched hearts and rhinestones finished it off nicely. Here are the recipes I used:

PTI MIM #151: Drop Shadow Die Cuts

Betsy Veldman showed us how to double cut our dies and offset the layers to create some depth for PTI's Make It Monday here.

Since I needed another teen birthday card for another young man, I chose the "happy" die from Pretty Peonies, the numbers from By The Numbers dies and the "th" using Block Alphabet dies. My card base of SU's basic gray was stamped using Memento Tuxedo Black ink and PTI's Polka Dot Basics II and corners rounded. A Basic Black layer was then covered with Soft Stone embossed with the Woodgrain Impression Plate. For "Happy" and "th" I used the same two colors but alternated them: Aqua Mist and Ocean Tides and stamped the design on the bottom layers using Ocean Tides ink. The "13" was die cut using SU Bravo Burgundy and Soft Stone with a design from Half & Half stamped in Bravo Burgundy on the bottom layer and popped up using SU dimensionals. For the finishing touch I punched three small stars from Basic Black and added Glossy Accents to make them shine.

Supplies: (all PTI unless noted)
Cardstock: Soft Stone, Ocean Tides, Aqua Mist, White, Black, SU Basic Gray & SU Bravo Burgundy
Ink: Ocean Tides, Memento Tuxedo Black and SU Bravo Burgundy
Stamps: Pretty Peonies and Half & Half
Dies: By The Numbers, Block Alphabet and Pretty Peonies
Other: Corner Rounder, small star punch, Glossy Accents and SU dimensionals

PTI MIM #138: Inlaid Die Cuts & Simon Says Stamp: Anything Goes

Since I needed a 75th birthday card for a male friend of ours, I decided I would try Betsy Veldman's technique of inlaid die cuts as shown in her video here, Nichole Heady's blog. It's difficult to see in the photo below, but I did die cut and remove the numbers from my stamped Vintage Cream cardstock. Then I die cut another "75" from Simply Chartreuse and "inlaid" the numbers in the opening. To finish off the sentiment, I added a folded banner with tails cut on both ends and raised it up using foam tape. Three sequins added a little sparkle to the leaves.

I'm also entering this in Monday's Simon Says Stamp: Anything Goes

Supplies: (all PTI unless noted)
Cardstock: Vintage Cream, Simply Chartreuse, Harvest Gold & SU Really Rust
Ink: Simply Chartreuse, Harvest Gold & SU Really Rust
Stamps: Leaf Prints & Big Birthday Wishes (Think Big Favorites #12 "Happy Birthday" inside sentiment ~ oops, not pictured)

Other: Sequins & foam tape

PTI Make It Monday #124: Dressed Up Envelopes

I know, I know ~ it's Sunday night and here I am again just posting my creation for this week's Make It Monday. Believe it or not, I made this birthday card last night but still needed to make the envelope today. Melissa showed us the steps she took to dress up her envelope, but mine isn't quite so fancy. After all, it's for our godchild in honor of his second birthday.  Since I need to mail it, I wanted to keep the envelope to one layer.

Supplies: (all PTI unless noted)
Cardstock: New Leaf, SU Real Red, White
Ink: SU Green Galore & SU Tempting Turquoise (+ Harvest Gold & SU Real Red for envelope)
Stamps:SU Birthday Whimsy (+ Framed Out #12, Star Prints & Studio Calico Napa Valley  for envelope)
Dies: By The Number & Fabulous Frames
Other: Star patterned paper & foam mounting tape (stash)

PTI March 2013 Blog Hop: Sequins

Blog-hop-logo

Our challenge this month was to use sequins.

Yes, I really do know someone celebrating her 91st birthday this month. Started with a Rose Red card base, rounded one corner and added a strip of paper from LilyBee Designs. Added sequins that are very close in color to PTI's Hawaiian Shores. The "happy" die cut from Aqua Mist is stamped using Hawaiian Shores and backed with a second die cut from SU Going Gray to create a shadow. After die cutting the "91" from By The Numbers and "st" from the Block Alphabet Dies using SU Pretty in Pink cardstock, I ran them through my BigShot using a Sizzix Swiss Dots embossing folder and sponged some ink on them. I popped these up using SU's dimensionals. To finish it off with some added bling, I misted the card with Shimmer Sparkle.

Supplies (all PTI unless noted):
Stamp Sets: Pretty Peonies
Dies: By The Numbers Dies and Block Alphabet Dies
Cardstock: Aqua Mist, SU Rose Red, SU Pretty in Pink and Lily Bee Designs Head Over Heels
Ink: Hawaiian Shores
Other: Sequins from JoAnn's, Sizzix Swiss Dots EF, Shimmer Sparkle & Sponge Daubers, Corner Rounder
