PTI MIM #336: Faux Gilded Leaves

Let me start off by saying how fabulous Laurie Schmidlin's gilded leaves look on her beautiful card. She used three colored embossing powders to achieve this plus clear for the veins. It is stunning! Laurie shared her technique for gilding leaves for this week's Papertrey Ink Make It Monday. 

For once I have the actual stamps and dies she used so I opted for the Leaf Prints, but will now view other stamps with this technique in mind. I'm sure other stampers came up with some awesome ideas that never occurred to me. Here's my design, and I know my dear friend will appreciate this card. 

Here's a close up of the leaves so you can really see the gilding. The middle leaf is popped up using Stampin' Up Dimensionals.

PTI MIM #315: Embossing Enamel Splatters

This week Melissa Phillips is the hostess of Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday. Her current favorite technique is creating embossed enamel splatters. She, of course, used Embossing Enamel, but I don't have any and I'm leaving on vacation today. The challenge said we could use embossing powder to create our splatters and splotches so that's how I did mine. Just how to get splotches and splatters though got me thinking outside the box. I used VersaMark ink refill mixed with a tad bit of water to thin it out and attempted to splatter it on my ink-blended yardstick, sprinkled with embossing powder and heat set it. I like the results, but I'm sure it would be much easier with Embossing Enamel. My sentiment is embossed in the usual way.

A few score lines, a piece of twine and a layered butterfly finished off this get well card. All of a sudden I went from needing multiple birthday cards to needing cards of encouragement...but definitely better than sympathy.

PTI MIM #309: Heat Embossed Stencil Backgrounds

Yes, it’s Sunday night again, and I just finished my card for Melissa's Make It Monday Challenge for Papertrey Ink. Believe it or not, I managed to do some cleaning in my stamping room but I’m not done yet. Had to take time to watch some football today. Did anyone watch the Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints today? I’m just a little partial to the Vikings having been born and raised there. What a game! Papertrey July 2017 Blog Hop Challenge

Most everyone who follows Nichole's blog knows that the 25th of every month is Papertrey Ink's Blog Hop Challenge. We always get such interesting images to inspire us, and this month's vignette is no exception. Look at the soft blues, grays and a touch of antique gold in this beauty.

Linda E shared her response on the Forum when the question was posted, Where do you find inspiration? "Someone made a suggestion to me a long time ago to find something that I liked; it could be a card, a photo, fabric, a pillow, whatever. Study your object for a few minutes, then put it away. 

Without looking at your inspiration piece again, go make a card based on your observations. I use this suggestion quite a bit."

PTI MIM #291: Emboss Resist Shadow Sentiments

So, it's time once again for another Make It Monday Challenge at Papertrey Ink. This week Ashley showed us how to add dropped shadows on sentiments using the emboss resist technique. I actually created my card earlier in the week but didn't post, hoping I'd find time to try it again. (My white drop shadow turned a little pink from the Scarlet Jewel.) Making another one now isn't going to happen because my stamping room is a disaster. I usually put things away as I work, but just squeezing time to create what I needed was a bit of a struggle. My DH is mowing now so it's a perfect time for me to hide in that room and clean up my messes. I'm sure some of you can relate to this dilemma. Without further ado, here's my card.

Papertrey February Blog Hop Challenge 2017

Another month is coming to an end, and it was a busy one with 10 days of activities at Papertrey Ink. Since we were on vacation for most of it, I was only able to participate in a few of the first challenges. Trying to get back into the swing of card making, I decided to squeeze in a card today for PTI's February Blog Hop Challenge instead of doing laundry. There's always tomorrow to catch up on household chores. Just look at the gorgeous image Nichole provided this month.

Knew as soon as I saw it that I would use the wreath from MIM Mini Kit: Lovely Laurels, but that was all. Besides that, my DH's aunt will be turning 99 on February 28. This is what I came up with inspired by the black, gold and pink color combination. I sure hope she likes it!

PTI Celebrating the Past, Present and Future: 2010

Moving through the past 10 years at Papertrey Ink, we're looking back at 2010. A few of the sets showcased are: A Wreath for All Seasons, Year of Flowers Sweet Peas, Beautiful Blooms II, Take Three Summer and Love Lives Here. It's fun to see cards created seven years ago and also now using current trends. Because A Wreath for All Seasons has been on my wish list forever, I was inspired by this card by Maile.

PTI MIM #269: Embossed + Outlined Backgrounds

Leave it to Betsy Veldman to come up with this cool idea of embossing images and then outlining them with a coordinating colored marker. You can see her sharing how it's done here for this week's Papertrey Ink Make It Monday. Thank goodness for these challenges as I not only try something new but it motivates me to create. And now, back to creating more Christmas cards before it's too late to mail them this year.

On with my Get Well card for a dear friend who just had hand surgery this morning. (We were up way too early on a Saturday as she had to be there at 6 am.) I embossed What The Doodle: Feathers in white and used a VersaMarker for the outline since I don't own any Copics. The sentiment from Painted Petals was stamped in Dark Chocolate. The Kraft card base was sponged using white pigment ink.

PTI MIM #263: Background Building With Frames

Amy Sheffer shared with us how to build a background using frame die-cuts for Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday. Didn't think I'd find time to attempt this technique as we had a busy week. We also drove to Richland, WA for the weekend to meet up with other relatives to watch two nephews (Senior & Sophomore) from Idaho participate in a Cross-Country Track Meet Saturday. The Senior finished second in his division so that was a very proud moment. Enough of my life...now on to my card.

Papertrey August Blog Hop Challenge

My first thought was to get out my paintbrushes, but instead I pulled out my new Garden Gate stencil and ink blending tool. This is what I came up with blending Melon Berry and Distress Spiced Marmalade. My sentiment is done in Enchanted Evening. I also blended a bit of Enchanted Evening on the Vellum leaves. Added in five sequins for a little bling.

PTI MIM #243: Ink Blending Over Heat Embossing

So, all the hullabaloo is over after March's release, and now we're just waiting for more new goodies to arrive. Danielle Flanders shared her talents and Bloomin' Cute cards in a video on her blog as well as on Nichole's blog here. This week's Make It Monday Challenge is a technique using ink blending over heat embossing. It adds a whole different dimension to backgrounds or focal images. I'm remaining very optimistic that Spring is in the air, and that's why I used the beautiful sentiment from Tulip Time on this card.

Besides the two obvious black gems, I also adhered one to both "i's" in the sentiment. You might not be able to see this without enlarging the photo. I definitely plan to use this blending/embossing technique in the future because I really do like the added dimension. Thanks, Danielle, for sharing your talents with us!

PTI MIM #183: Dry Embossing Over Heat Embossing

Because I've been vacationing a week at a time the last three months, I really haven't been crafting or visiting a whole lot of blogs. However, I managed to follow Nichole's blog to keep up with the sneak peeks and now I'm back home for Release Week. So, why not rush once again to meet another deadline for the latest Make It Monday? Dawn is showing us the technique of dry embossing over heat embossing. (By the way, if you've never been to Mackinac Island, I highly recommend it.) Without further delay, here's my card.

It's difficult to see here but I used another idea of Dawn's on this card. The top piece of Rustic Cream card stock stamped & embossed using Leaf Prints was dry embossed using PTI's Woodgrain Impression Plate before adhering with SU dimensionals. Before adhering to the Rustic Cream piece with the stamped sentiment, I glued on a thin strip of SU Baroque Burgundy card stock. Think this fits the bill for a masculine birthday card? I do…and that's all that really matters, right.

PTI MIM #164: Cluster Stamped Sentiments

Oh my goodness, I knew it had been a while since I was able to stamp, but didn't realize it has been over a month. No wonder I was going through withdrawals. Since I need graduation cards, birthday cards and congratulatory cards, I thought I'd give this week's Make It Monday a try. Well, Heather made it look so easy. The first three went in the trash last night because I just wasn't pleased with my cluster of hats and stars, and I kept smearing the ink.  So earlier today I attempted that same card again because I liked the idea I had in my head…just not so much on paper. I am satisfied with this one for a High School grad whose school colors are red and blue.

My next card is for a high school senior who achieved her personal bests in discus and shot put and hopefully qualifies for WA State Field and Track. Her goal is to participate in Junior Nationals again so I'm confident she will. 

My third and final card is a birthday card for my SIL, which I need to mail tomorrow.

PTI MIM #137: Dimensional Leaf Wreath & MFW's TT: Enthralled with Fall

Another Make It Monday challenge on Nichole's blog asks us to make a dimensional leaf wreath. Melissa Phillips showed us in a video how she created her lovely Fall card. I attempted to follow by example and came up with this birthday card wishing a dear friend a fabulous day.

The glitter really sparkles and added a lot to the Turning A New Leaf die cuts that I adhered to a white circle to form my wreath. It's difficult to see here, but the embossed burgundy cardstock is raised up on a white card base, using foam tape. 

I'm also entering this Fall card in Moxie Fab World: Tuesday Trigger: Enthralled with Fall. The gorgeous Fall colors and the leaves helped inspire my wreath card above.

PTI Make It Monday #115: Beyond Paper with Impression Plates

Here I am posting at the last minute again for the PTI Make It Monday challenge, which is to emboss on something other than paper. So, like others I used aluminum foil and PTI's Cane/Linen Impression Plate to emboss a Mat Stack #6 diecut. To make the foil stronger, I backed it with cardstock before embossing it. My colors in this high school graduation card reflect the school colors of silver and navy blue. Heather Nichol's showed us how to do this technique using aluminum tape.

Heather Nichols showed us how to watercolor embossed images in PTI's current Make It Monday. Not only am I lacking experience in watercoloring, but I also realized I have very few stamps that would work well with this technique. The important thing is that I made it happen, and it's not bad for a rookie.
