PTI MIM #198: Three-Panel Cards

It's not unusual for me to be posting my Make It Monday card at the last minute, but it's not very often I enter two challenges in one day (the other being Papertrey's January Blog Hop). Ashley shared her talents with us in a great video explaining how to create three-panel cards from half a sheet of 8-1/2"x11" card stock. Some of you know I've been struggling with a card design for our dear friend's grandson who achieved the level of Eagle Scout. We will be attending his Court of Honor this Saturday so I needed a special card for him, and this challenge fit the bill. Here's the front of my three-panel card:

The white with blue stars background paper I printed from my computer because I sold all my SU inks and don't own any blue ink…yet. Block alphabet dies were used to personalize this for Drake. This top portion was die cut using Edgers #3. The red stripes were stamped using Background Basics: Super Stripes after using my computer to print the words "Eagle Scout" on the white card base. A blue star from Fancy Flakes Dies was adhered to cover up a bit of red that bled onto my white stripe. (I know I should have kept that a secret.)

"Dreams Believed and Dreams Achieved" from For The Graduate were heat embossed using white embossing powder. It closes with velcro (that's the circle you see above the word "dreams"), but it's so strong I'm not sure I like that. The "Congratulations You Did It!" middle section is a perfect place to write a personal message. A pocket attached to the bottom section will hold a gift card, cash or personal check. This was adhered with Scor-Tape.

Papertrey January Blog Hop Challenge

With February just around the corner, it's time to start making Valentines for our friends and loved ones. Papertrey Ink inspired me with their awesome challenge here. Don't these images just put you in the "lovey dovey" spirit?

My favorite is the multi-colored hearts that look similar to the bokeh technique. Without further ado, here is my creation made especially for my dear husband. He is so supportive of my crafting time I just know he'll appreciate my effort.

PTI MIM #197: Homemade Foam Stickers

OMG, it was such an exciting day in the Seattle area that I almost didn't get a card made for Laurie's challenge for this week's Papertrey Ink Make It Monday. (It's been a busy week.) She showed us how to make our own homemade stickers from foam. That's just what I did on this card for dear friends of ours who invited us to their home to watch last week's Seattle Seahawks beat the Carolina Panthers and today's overtime "come-from-behind" win against the Green Bay Packers for the NFC Championship. Now we have Super Bowl XLIX fever in the Pacific Northwest…anxiously waiting for February 1! If you don't like football I know you could care less, but it was very exciting to say the least.

Using Kraft ink and the football in Have A Ball, I stamped some full strength and some stamped off to get a lighter color. Inked the edges of the white card base also using Kraft ink. Two strips of colored paper under the striped paper show off my green foam stickers die cut using Block Alphabet. Three green sequins added a nice finishing touch (I think).

PTI MIM #196: Colorful Card Corners

Thanks, Danielle, for motivating me and showing us here how to dress up our corners for this week's Make It Monday challenge for Papertrey Ink. Because I kept thinking I had lots of time to make Christmas cards, you might say I procrastinated a tad bit and was really pushing right up to the last minute. Let's just say I got my 80 cards mailed so most people received them before Christmas. It really took the fun out of it so found it difficult to get back in that stamping room and create. Besides that, it needs a major purging and reorganizing. However, I needed a sympathy card for tomorrow when I'm meeting a dear friend for lunch who lost her traveling companion over the holidays. Without further ado, here's my creation.

I think this is a first for me using so many different stamp sets and ink colors on one card. Actually found it to be kind of fun.

PTI MIM #193: Camouflaging Die Cuts

Laura's technique of camouflaging die cuts was this week's challenge on Nichole's blog for Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday. Having only a little bit of time between baking and watching the Seahawks' game today, I managed to review her video and make my attempt. My blending obviously needs some practice, but here it is anyway. Sorry for the poor quality photo, but it's late at night.

I blended (I guess you'd call it that) Spring Rain, Winter Wisteria and Royal Velvet after masking off the top part of my white panel. Then I die cut the word "thanks" from Wet Paint Cuts Dies so I could stack three more under it so it would be raised up and stand out as the focal image. In the white space above I stamped small snowflakes from In The Meadow using Spring Rain and Winter Wisteria inks. Punching each side with a 1/2" circle punch provided the perfect place to wrap twine and tie in a bow. I used SU dimensionals to adhere this to the white card base.

PTI MIM #192: Tab Closure Tri-fold Card

Well, I should have been mass producing more Christmas cards this afternoon, but instead I decided I really want/need to win a Papertrey Ink gift certificate. The release this month is incredible. I swear they keep increasing the number of new products every release. However, Betsy did such a beautiful job with her video tutorial explaining how to make a tri-fold card with a tab closure. Let me just say that I didn't find it as easy as she makes it look. Her card here is incredible. Next time I'd just use dimensionals and tuck in the tab closure. The exacto and I didn't get along too well…maybe I used too many layers of paper in my design. (wink) Without further ado, here it is.

I used coordinating papers from MME Winter Wonderland paper pad on an Ocean Tides card base as well as some SU Real Red to accent the designer paper. Merry Christmas from Stylish Sentiments: Holiday is stamped in Pure Poppy. 

You can see below my jagged cut using an exact for the slit (not pretty) but it works. 

Using Pure Poppy ink I stamped a sentiment from Stylish Sentiments: Holiday in the middle of the folds. 

Well, there you have it, and now I can say I tried. : )

PTI MIM #191: Glittered Frames

Thank goodness for PTI Make It Monday challenges because it motivates me to create a card when time permits. It's not helping me mass produce my Christmas cards, but I couldn't resist busting out my glitter after watching Dawn's video to make glittered frames. It was fun but now I know why I seldom "glitterize" my cards. Love the look but it's all over the place, especially since my only silver glitter was pretty chunky. I've had it so long I paid $2.19 for a huge jar. Would you call that hoarding? Anyway, here's my card. This was a fluke so don't expect staging all the time. : )

I used a SU Going Gray card base to make it easier for writing inside the card. That's also the color you see under the raised up Fancy Flakes snowflake. Using a VersaMark pen, I edged the snowflake and then dipped it in silver metallic embossing powder, which is also what I used for the Happy Holidays sentiment. Didn't have 1/8" Score Tape so the 1/4" made the glittered frame a little too wide, but I had to go with it. The snowflake is raised up using SU dimensionals. Finishing the card, I added a rhinestone to the center of the flake.
