PTI MIM #290: Combining Stenciling and Masking

This past week was Betsy's turn to host Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday. She challenged us to create a one-layer effect combining stenciling and masking. Here's my creation that also fills the void of masculine birthday cards.

I used Tag Sale: Quilted to make my own stencil and ink blended Hawaiian Shores. Splits: Happy Birthday design was stamped in Enchanted Evening and the sentiment in Americana. To keep it one-layer and on the masculine side, I added three white Nuvo Crystal Drops at the top of the tag. It really was a pretty quick and simple card and can see this in many other color combinations. Thanks, Betsy, for the inspiration and challenge!

Oops, I just realized I failed to mask on my first card to quickly raced off to my stamp room to recreate the above card using the same colors. Only difference is I masked using a Splits: Happy Birthday die-cut when inking my homemade stencil. Then I stamped the design and sentiment. Added three Americana dots using Harvest Berries and covered those with glossy accents. Here's what this one looks like.

Thanks for stopping by, and I really do appreciate your comments.

Supplies: (all PTI unless noted)

Cardstock: Stamper's Select White
Ink: Hawaiian Shores, Enchanted Evening and Americana
Stamps: Splits: Happy Birthday and Harvest Berries (dots)
Dies: Tag Sale: Quilted (used for my stencil) and Splits: Happy Birthday
Other: Ink Blending Tool and Nuvo Crystal Drops (white)

Well, now you have two masculine cards instead of one! Both look great!

These are great, Kathy! I really love how the 2 together show what a neat effect it is to stamp in the masked space, although the first card is lovely, too!
